Questionnaire for EEA clients

hero

To ensure that our advanced trading products meet your investment needs and comply with European regulations, Kraken requires all eligible clients in the European Economic Area (EEA) to complete an appropriateness questionnaire. This questionnaire helps us assess your suitability for trading regulated Derivatives.

The questionnaire is a mandatory step for EEA clients who wish to access Kraken’s advanced trading products. It is designed to evaluate your knowledge, experience, and financial situation to ensure that the products you choose align with your investment goals and risk tolerance.

All clients residing in the EEA region will need to complete the questionnaire if they wish to use advanced products.

  • Existing clients: You’ll receive an email on December 1st, 2025 with details about transitioning to our new regulated entity. You’ll have 60 days from when you receive this communication to complete the required steps.

After January 30th, any accounts that haven’t transitioned will be set to “reduce-only” mode, meaning you’ll be able to close existing positions but won’t be able to open new ones.

Please note that EEA clients cannot trade inverse futures. All inverse futures positions will be set to “reduce-only” and will be closed 30 days after the reduce-only period ends (on March 1st, 2026).

  • New Kraken clients: All new clients in the EEA who wish to trade Derivatives must complete the questionnaire during the account setup process.

Completing the questionnaire allows Kraken to:

  • Assess suitability: Ensure that the trading products you select are appropriate for your financial situation and investment experience.

  • Ensure compliance: Meet regulatory requirements set by the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) to provide a secure and compliant trading environment.

New clients registering with Kraken will follow a streamlined process to access MiFID II-regulated products:

  1. 1

Account creation and verification: Complete the standard Kraken sign up process, including Tier 3 or Tier 4 verification.

  2. 2

Product Selection: During onboarding, select the products you think you’ll use.

  3. 3

Questionnaire and tax information: If you select any MiFID II licensed products, you will be prompted to complete the appropriateness questionnaire and provide your TIN.

  4. 4

Activate products: Once you complete the required steps, your chosen products will be unlocked with the appropriate regulatory protections based on your client classification.
